Hello my friends! It has come to my attention that some people prefer quilts where all the blocks are the same size. My Grandma’s Kitchen sew along does have different size blocks.
So if you want to use your own layout and create a 12″ block when I do another size I have some options because I have a TON of blocks for you from my many years of sew alongs.

My current Block of the Month for Free Quilt Pattern company is called ‘The Children’s Library’ and those blocks are 12″ blocks
And Sign up for those notices if you want to sew along!

Most of the blocks from my Vacation Time Sew along are 12″

I love your challenges Pat Sloan. I’m 58 and like several others I plan to keep quilting with you till I’m at least 100 or more if I get my way.
Me too Sue!
I’m sewing along with the Grandma’s Kitchen blocks. I’m all caught up, yippee! Having fun with them and this will be my first quilt with different sized blocks. Bring it on, Pat! 🙂
I love the different sized blocks. I haven’t started the Grandma’s Kitchen blocks yet, but plan to as soon as I get the Kid’s Wedding quilt finished…yeah, it’s been 2 years. What????? I think I have ADD when it comes to quilting. Oh look pretty fabric, oh look a new pattern, oh look Pat’s Solstice Quilt-a-long. (top done, needs borders, but go me!) LOL!
Hola Pat Sloan. A mí me gustan bloques de diferentes tamaños en un edredón o bloques del mismo tamaño. Su edredón de la Abuela es precioso. Me encanta. Muchas gracias. Saludos.

I did tell you in the article & on the pattern in several places Cherie .. glad you finally saw it!
Love love love multi-sized samplers! Thanks for all that you do for us for the love for making quilts. Much appreciated.
I’m 59 and also plan on sewing with Pat until I’m 100!!! Love the Quilters’ Attitude!
I absolutely LOVE the multi-sized blocks for a quilt. However I do understand that not everyone may. I commend you for referencing so many 12″ free blocks to use as substitution. I’m only 59 and I too, like Rosemary, will be here until I’m 100!
I also love the fact thta the blocks are different sizes but I was surprised when this one was not the same size as the rest. I had to double check that I had done it correctly!
Mary 12″ is FINISHED size.
Just love your 12″ blocks as all my quilts are for charity!
The 6″ blocks are a bit small and take a lot more time to make. LOL
I had a certain size in mind for my Solstice and just reduced the big ones to the 12″ ones for that one. When I make one for me, it will be with the varied sizes. It’s beautiful. You are so creative.
Pat, I love the quilts you do with different sized blocks. I’ve been reading lots of comments, and I think some people object to them because they struggle to get their blocks to the correct size through cutting and piecing issues. I also note that some just don’t read the instructions! But when you talk about 12″ block, I’s that finished size? Your quilts are beautiful and I hope you keep designing projects with different size blocks.
Pat, I do hope as you wrote this piece you were kicking a box with gritted teeth. I know I know your a buisness person and you have to be polite. But honestly I think this once you can scream ” THEN DONT FOLLOW ALONG!!!!!
I have a hard time keeping up because of several chronic conditions. I tried to keep up with the solstice quilt and was unhappy I couldn’t. I love the different sized blocks. They give the quilt a charming look. Anyway I have two grandmothers kitchen finished. Two more with the fabric cut with two more I hope to have cut today. Have a beautiful weekend everyone
If makes me feel like a slacker. Thanks for doing all that you do.
I love the different size blocks. I have several blocks that longed to my mother and some of my own that I keep unpacking from storage now I know what to do with them. It has gotten me to be more creative. I’m 66 so you can treat an old dog new tricks.
I’m working on Grandmas Kitchen. Can add white strips to the edges of the 10 inch blocks to make them the 12 inch size very easily. Like framing them out in white on such blocks as this weeks block, # 6…
The OCD in me is really struggling with the Solstice Assymetrical layout as I try to finish it (yes, I got way behind) However, I have just tried to let it go and I find that I am enjoying it. It is the first time I have done this!
I enjoy the varied sizes, keep them coming.
I’ve made same-size quilt blocks for so long that I am really enjoying th variety sizes you offer. What a nice change-up, just like life.
These people should look into making the bigger blocks into small individual quilts that they can then donate to the neio-natal unit in the local hospital. These are used to create a day-night cycle for the babies. then they can make duplicate of the smaller blocks for their own quilt. Just saying. :-}
Just me Beryl with one friend that helps me on some projects…. 🙂
Grandma’s Kitchen will be smaller than the Solstice, so you can expand as you like when we get to that point, thank you for sewing along Sheila!
I’ll be here Rosemary!
I love the asymmetrical design, thanks so much for introducing it! You must have a staff of hundreds to be able to do all you do!
You are so kind and thoughtful. If I had been asked that question, my answer probably would have been —than go find something that you want to do. Many good people have no idea of how many hours and days you spend getting all of this ready for us. But you can’t lead us all by the hand. Thanks for letting me stand on the soapbox this morning.
You are the sweetest, Pat! And so accommodating! I used to be one that just liked the same size, so I understand people enjoying that, but I SO enjoy the variety of sizes you provide and the quilts are so wonderful with the different block sizes! You are amazing and your talent is incredible–thank you for sharing it with us so generously!
Hugs,
Michelle
Your designs are great. I love making Quilts where each square is different in pattern with a few different sizes on some make the quilt so interesting and never boring. Keep up the the beautiful designs and stories that you do. I mix them up sometimes and others times make exactly what you design. So much fun!!!!
I’m working on the solstice quilt along along with Grandmas Kitchen and I was hoping the blocks would be different sizes! I love the look and enjoy the large blocks. In fact I made those pretty early on in the Solstice quilt! I’m almost done with that quilt!!!! You had mentioned Grandmas quilt would be as large so I already planned on going through your blocks to make it big enough for my moms bed. I’m loving the quilt alongs and I’m enjoying your patterns. Being new to quilting (less than a year) you have taught me so much! Thank you for your time and inspiration!!!!!
I can understand people wanting to do same size blocks quilts (I do them as well) but I absolutely love doing the multi-size blocks. I love the finished look of these quilts. I hope to continue following your wonderful designs. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity. I’m 80 and hope to follow you til I’m 100!!
I love quilts with the different sized blocks. I draw the block on graph paper and size it up or down if I want to. There are all kinds of quilters out there. Keep doing what you do!!
