My little sister had Barbies and I liked them but was too old for them then. When I was younger they were not common in Europe. My wildcard must be my little kitchen stove that could really be lighted. I cooked mainly véry small pancakes on it.
What size is you border going to be for childhood games and are you going to match your sashing?
I will have this quilt together tonight. Thank you for sending the sashing patterns earlier. All pieces from Block 1 to 17 are completed and sewed together. I am donating this quilt to a local shelter for moms and kids.
My mother wouldn’t let me or my sisters have Barbie dolls because she didn’t approve of their figures. We had Tammy dolls. I still have mine, dressed in her tennis/gymsuit, but I don’t have her shoes.
I was too old when Barbie came out, but my granddaughter loved her’s. She would brush her hair into different styles. We never knew what was coming next.
I looked at your Game block 18. Yes, I do agree the pink did not fit in at all. I love your second choice. So much better.
Thank you for all of these wonderful blocks. They are so much fun and bring back so many memories to this old 80 year brain.
Thank you, I love my Barbies as well. My Mom has said that she would sew me Barbie clothes in a paper bag so I couldn’t see them (they were a Christmas present). I had the Sunshine Family as well. Loved that family.
I remember parents being cautious about buying Barbies since she had an adult figure so it took 2 years for Santa to put her under the tree. I was upset that my younger sister’s Barbie had a shoulder-less ball gown out of white satin & red velvet while my Barbie had a go to church outfit. No resentment still, just a memory. My grandmother was there & she was a quilter & seamstress so out of 2 feed sacks she cut out a ball gown & either she or Mom sewed it. Friends didn’t understand my dress but I loved it as it was different from everyone else’s fancy outfits. A white bodice & light blue skirt with love seen in. I really only played Barbie another year as you didn’t do that in jr high.
Thank you Pat. I am now at a place to start this weekly sew along. The sip has curtailed my ability to obtain fabric quickly. I find I have to ponder a while my options…. stash bust or purchase??? I am anxious to begin. Shopping in my own stash first!
I loved my Barbies too! I also had a Midge with her red pageboy hairdo and a Skipper! I had a Ken doll but all his velveteen hair rubbed off so I had to color it in with a black marker. My mom made me a lot of clothes as well as clothes for my daughters when they were old enough to play. I remember in 5th grade (I know, I know, girls would not be caught dead playing with Barbies now in 5th grade) but about my friends and I all got together with our HUGE cases of Barbies and clothes and had so much fun! Ah, for the good ole days.
I visited Instagram yesterday. It was called Blackout Tuesday.
Thank you for this last block. Hope I get it finished this summer. I just wanted to add that I follow you and other designers on Facebook and Instagram, not for political reasons, but for your designs and creativity. It gets me away from the news and other distressful things. I don’t want to see it from my favorite people.
