Quilters are a generous and prolific group. We love to create even if we don’t have a place for our creations. I know there is a large community of quilters making tops that need a home.
My purpose for this page is to connect top makers to top finishers for charity purposes.
*******************************
*** I am listing organizations that are: ***
*******************************
- Willing to take Quilt tops (and finished quilts as well)
- Willing to quilt and bind the tops
- And that the organization will then use the finished quilt for their charity purposes
List additional groups in the comments with the following information:
- Organization name
- State or Country it is located in
- A link to the Quilt Donation page at their website or Facebook page so we know they are a legitimate organization
First I’d like to thank Joyce for her question of where can she send tops for charity quilts. This gave me the focus for this project to connect quilters to charity groups.
Thank you to all the makers supporting others with our love wrapped in quilts đź’•
*******************************
*** Basic Guidelines ***
*******************************
- Contact organization before sending
- Trim your loose threads and check all your seams are sewn
- Send backing, batting & binding fabric whenever possible.. charity groups are not made of money, they need the supplies to put them together. (heck they might take your extra fabric, ask them)
- Share a photo of your quilt at the end , then send your top off with love đź’•
- You can also join my community and share photos there at https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltWithPatSloan
PLEASE READ –
- Most of these groups also take finished quilts and supplies, ask them
- It is up to you to contact the organization before sending your top. Once you send it, that top now belongs to that organization to use as they see fit.

Lutheran World Relief (LWR)
I had the great honor of being able to take a tour of the LWR processing warehouse in Maryland. I was joined by This video shows you the warehouse and the process to get the quilts ready for shipping to people in need.
Thank you to Karla Walker of our community, with over 25 years of charity work for LWR, for organizing this.
Many thanks to the LWS staff Janel Johnson-Momanyi, the Senior Manager, Quilt & Kit Ministry, and Martha Piedrasanta Associate, Quilt & Kit Ministry. Most of the tour was given by the amazing Loretta Wolf, Director of Material Resources for the Brethren Service Center (otherwise known as “the New Windsor Warehouse”!) You’ll learn this center supports several organizations. We were also joined for the tour by Kathy McLaughlin, Maryrose Spriggs, Barbara Evans and my husband Gregg who did a lot of the filming!

- Karla said- rated as a top 10 charitable group. Nationally, we make about 400,000 quilts per year and that are sent World Wide, including the U.S., where they are needed. My group has made 1000 quilts in 25 years. We depend on donations and grants to keep the costs minimal. Quilt tops are 60 by 80 inches and any design, even whole cloth is fine. Join the group’s Facebook page. Then, you can ask for a Lutheran Church in a particular area that can take quilt tops. My group gets so many donations of fabric, that I had to go on the Facebook page to find another nearby church to share our donated fabric!

We also participate in the Dress A Girl program sending yearly over 1000 dresses to developing countries around the world such as Haiti, Ghana, Columbia, Malawi. Burkina Faso and others. Additionally we donate to the Shoe Box program by providing dresses and shorts for their holiday shoe boxes that are distributed through Samaritan’s Purse. These are a few of the many projects we are working on. As you can see from the volume we produce and the communities we distribute to our Quilting Angels are very busy!
We have been in existence for almost ten years and have a wonderful network of donor sites set up for distribution. We donate to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Stony Brook Childrens Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, St. Mary’s Specialty Children’s Hospital, Winthrop Kids Cancer Center and many other healthcare facilities.

The quilts used for the isoletes for the preemies need to be around the range of 36 by 42. We actually use a lot of six inch blocks and make them six blocks across and seven rows long. The quilt tops for the Indian babies can be any size. They love brightly colored quilts. The hospitals we deliver to are Phoenix Children’s, Banner University, Maricopa Medical, Banner Estrella, maybe others. I deliver to St Joseph’s NICU, and the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. Our volunteers just do the part they like–some sew quilt tops, some layer the quilts. We actually bind the quilts, then have a lot of them tied, very few are actually long arm quilted, but some are machine quilted.

We take quilt tops and we are a no profit based in Michigan. We donate quilts to families going through a medical crisis in the NICU, PCTU, and Ronald McDonald House. Facebook page is Preemie Pals and the website is premmiepals.org
If you would like to add UK-wide Organisations, there is a Project Linus UK https://projectlinusuk.org.uk/ which has a number of regional groups. Not all groups will accept tops, so this needs to be checked. Quilts for Care Leavers has a specific sized quilt top that is required, but also accepts blocks.
They are on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltsforCareLeaversMakers
Thank you to Elaine for posting above- Hospice of Southern Kentucky would like to be added to the organizations accepting complete quilts for our patients. Please reach out!

HELP! HSK is running low on twin size quilts for our Hospice House. Our staff places a quilt or blanket on each bed when a family arrives and we send it with them. Our blanket shelves are low and we don’t want anyone to go without. You can help us restock by:
1. Donating new blankets, throws, or quilts! We would like them to be Twin Regular or Twin XL, that’s what works best on the beds we have at the Hospice House.
2. Connect a quilting circle or ministry with HSK! You can provide them with this phone number were they to have any questions- 270-746-9387
3. Share this post! You never know who it might reach 🙂
Here is a link to our Amazon Wish List where you can purchase and ship blankets to us through your Amazon account:

It’s always good to consider several of those things, thank you
Thank you, Pat, so much for taking the time to organize this list of charities. It is heart warming to know there are so many quilters dedicated to the well being of others. I’ve been part of a community quilters group for many years. We make quilts for children in need of comfort in our area but was unaware there were so many others doing the same throughout the USA. Thanks again for enlarging our horizons!

I think it is listed under Iowa rather than Idaho. I just learned about your group last week while on the Treasury Valley Shop Hop, and was surprised that Idaho was not represented. I am part of a group making charity quilts, but we don’t have a site anywhere. Love your focus. Keep up the good work!

Pat, Thanks for your daily videos! I don’t always watch live but do try to catch all of them later! My favorite baby quilt to date is the Baa Baa Baby Quilt. I had already purchased the pattern when you showed it in one of your videos. The lambs are adorable! It’s being quilted as I type for a April baby girl. Again, thanks for all you do for us quilters! You keep me inspired! I’m working on six different BOMs in addition to your Home Is quilt along so I NEED inspiration to keep up! HA!
Hi Pat, Thanks for the opportunity to win some of your goodies! I love to make any kind of baby quilt! I am partial to pastels, but I work in bright and bold colors too. Most of mine go to Project Linus. Thanks for continuing to ‘talk’ with us. Such a bright spot in my day as Covid keeps rolling along!
My favorite baby quilts to make are bright and colorful. Have made fan quilts, postage stamp quilts and am making a basket weave baby quilt in purples and a posies quilt for another baby girl.
