We are 'Going on a Picnic' … It's time for an Easy Breezy Summer Sew along!
The blocks are a mystery until I publish them. Find the details, Supply List, Fabrics thoughts, and a link to each block when it is published are all below.
Details
- RUNS: July 8, 2020 for 12 weeks
- Blocks: 12" finished
- SIZE: Lap size
- TIMING – Wednesday around 7:30am EST. Email notice goes out noon-ish in my time zone, EST. The email is NEVER when the block is published.
- Technique – All Easy Pieced. Each block will be named and a story/memory about a Picnic item. Could be a recipe, could be a location.. I'll mix up the topics each week to keep it fun!
- NOTE: The Block does NOT LOOK like the topic of the week. This is not a pictorial quilt. I do a topic as it is way more fun than just plopping out a block. I love the memories and sometimes research that goes into the topic. That keeps my Sew alongs fun and unique.

*** The Fabric ***
I'm going to let you pick a Fat Quarter (FQ) bundle that you love! Right now fabric is moving out of store at the speed of Light. Also to keep employees safe during this Coronavirus world wide Pandemic, less people are working at one time in the warehouses, so the supplies are shipping slowly to shops and out of shops to us.
That means we'll keep it simple. I have 3 suggestions above. I will be using the middle one, Goldenrod. As these sell out I'll change to other fun options.
Fabric Options
- Hometown America https://shrsl.com/2a94v scroll the page this is clearance so once it's gone that is it
- Goldenrod https://shrsl.com/2a11o I will use this one
- Agatha Garden https://shrsl.com/2a94z is so cozy, you'll have a great fall quilt when done!
- Summer breeze https://shrsl.com/2a980
- Wit & Wisdom https://shrsl.com/2a987
- Modern Farm House https://shrsl.com/2a98q
- My Bonnie Lane bundle is a great mix of 16 FQ + 2 additional 1/2 yd pieces. Pick up another piece or add from your stash https://shrsl.com/2a9es
- FleaMarket is so pretty https://shrsl.com/2aadr
- MORE GREAT Fat Quarter bundles at https://shrsl.com/2a94p
- and MORE at https://shrsl.com/2a94r
Supply list – this is in the download above as well
- 1 Fat Quarter bundle of 23 pieces or more .. a few less will be ok.
- 2 yds of background
- 2 yd for border
- 1 yd for sashing
- 5 yds backing
You can of course use your collection to create a gorgeous group or use another fabric line be sure to give yourself a variety by having 23 or so FQ for variety

Wish I lived close to you to help you out by sewing for you while you discuss the new blocks. Also, Connecting Threads has come out with Hometown America II, red, white, and blue like the one you have above. Praying for a speedy, uneventful recovery. Take care of your, we won’t suffer if we have to wait a bit longer for the new sew along.
Take care and don’t worry about the qal. We will follow along when you are ready.
Take advantage of this time to take a deep breath and just relax, if you can.
Praying for a complete and speedy healing! Take good care of you, we will b here when you’re ready.
OMg. You are injured and still running a sew along for us. Lol. Maybe your husband gets to be on camera doing the sewing demos. Thank you for all you do!
Thinking of you today, Pat. I, too, fell while walking in April 2019-one day after eye surgery. Broke my foot and deeply lacerated the eyelid on the bum eye. Fortunately, I did no damage to the healing eye, and due to all the walking I do, was so physically fit my foot healed quicker and better than expected. The doc gave me a big black ‘boot’ to immobilize my foot and ankle bones and told me to keep walking every day–in moderation. And my eye surgeon agreed. Wishing you the same good results. Keep us posted on your recovery. Ditto from me on seeing Greg in front of the camera.
Thank you Pat for continuing with the sew along. You are amazing -you show more concern for others than yourself. Prayers for your surgery and fast healing.
Well said! Take care, Pat!
Take care, Pat! Slow down and let your body heal! It’s okay to take a break (no pun intended!). We love you and would rather have you rest and recover, then get back to busy Pat.
Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery from South Africa! You are in our thoughts and prayers, take good care of yourself.
Oh my, prayers for speedy healing
I can only imagine the struggles you are already facing. Bless you, Greg! Since he is becoming a big part of your day, could we possibly see him just once?! I like having a face for my prayers! Take care of you, Pat! We will understand if revised plans become necessary, won’t we gals?!
This is the year I’m finally learning to be patient. Patiently waiting to go on a virtual picnic with everyone, properly distanced of course.
My goodness you take care! this has not been a good year for any of us. Relax, get well and we will wait for you to heal.
I also feel so bad for you. I fell a few years ago and broke only my right wrist. Do as your Dr. says and good luck for your surgery. Prayers for you and your recovery. Stay strong. . Hugs from Canada .
I feel for you, Pat. When I met you at Somewhere Sewing a few years ago, I had just recovered from a similar type of fall. I had a broken foot and hand from that one! You can do this but, you’re going to owe the “Shipping Dept” BIG TIME for all of his help while you get through it. 2020 is certainly not for the faint of heart! Virtual {{{Hugs}}} and, take care of yourself first.
Special prayers for quick healing. This is when you find out who your friends are, OUCH!
Oh dear, take care and God bless you for complete and quick healing.
Wishing you a very speedy recovery, Pat. Love your quilt designs and ideas for naming the series–always interesting and fun. Do what you need to do for yourself and God bless your DH for all he’s doing to help you and take care of you.
What Rosemary said! Be good to yourself!!!
I am still reeling over the fact that you broke BOTH wrists …. I am reeling faster now that you will still be doing the Wednesday Blocks!! I love your quilts and the way you compose and finish them. Thank you for sharing but take care of you first so you can continue filling our lives with quilts of joy!!
