💕Will you help me help our friends hit by Hurricane Helene?

My friend, I don't know where to start, so I'll just dive in.  Hurricane Helene destruction has been epic. It hit communities that never expected to have hurricane damage of Epic proportions, like where my brother Tom and his family live in Asheville NC.

The hurricane's reach was massive and there are many communities that need our help.

My family is affected and I want to help.  He had no flood damage, which we are all thankful for. Tom lives in a neighborhood near the downtown.   As of writing this, they still have no power. And as many of you know, the entire city area of Asheville has NO water. I can't even imagine no water. The Three power plants were damaged. One needs major repairs. The city is working to get the other 2 up and running at some level.

We quilters are an amazingly generous community.  And we like to sew, I get that.  ðŸ˜Š  What I did is design a FREE 'Much Beloved Asheville' banner for you to sew and display. And I've listed a group of charities below that I'd be honored if you would support. Some are specific to Asheville, some are supporting all areas. Support where you can.

Below I also put my Heart quilt if you want to make that instead. Please display it or even auction the quilt in your local community to show support and raise more funds.

There is also my video for today at the end and some photos from the Charities facebook pages.

I thank you with all my heart for your generosity 💕  supporting our friends across the country who are in need.

*** Much Beloved Asheville ***

I was inspired by the Logo of Asheville and the strong community of volunteers that already exists there. Tom and his family moved there because they felt connected to that community and I really want to help them.

"Beloved Asheville' is one of the local Charities that my Sister-in-law recommended. they are full run by volunteers for many years. It is an establed group that knows the community. I'm honored to be able to help them to help others.

  1. My son and his family live in west Asheville. Their home was not damaged. So they have been able to spend their energy helping others. It’s a beautiful thing when people can put their differences aside and come to together and help and share the resources they have available I will be donating and also making the Beloved Asheville banner. Did you calculate how much of each color fabric we need? I don’t see it listed on the print out. Thank you for all that you do for us quilters and the community

  2. Pat,
I read in Facebook that Keepsake Quilting is accepting quilts. They are to be sent to Keepsake Quilting Factory Outlet in North Carolina. Is this a good place to donate?
    Please let us know!
    Thanks,
    Patty Gray

  3. Thank you so much for encouraging quilters to get involved in supporting Asheville and the surrounding areas of North Carolina. My son lives in Asheville so we went through days of worrying about his well being. It was so difficult to place his name and information on a missing persons list. Thankfully, my son contacted us on Wednesday evening when he was able to call us. He is safe after surviving such a harrowing experience. He has 4 inches of mud in his studio apartment, no running water, and down trees everywhere. He is a survivor as he has the wisdom of the Earth inside him. We have visited the beautiful mountains of North Carolina many times to see my son and his friends. We have our favorite places to visit Marshall, Hot Springs, Black Mountain, Mount Mitchel and Mt. Pishcah to name a few. I can relate to the spiritual draw of Asheville that you described today. Like your family, my son lives in the outskirts of the city, so he is safe. The devastation is everywhere. It will take years to rebuild. Thank you for encouraging people to donate.
I wanted you to know that I spent many hours over the past week quilting. It kept my mind busy so I could escape the news and videos of the damage. We are a community of makers and creating is where our hearts and souls go to find peace.
    Thanks again.

  4. Thank you Pat, for this heartfelt project. My husband’s childhood friend lives in the Tampa area. Her home was flooded with over 4′ high water from Helene, she lost everything. Her landlord told her that it would be a minimum of a year before she could move back in. Thank goodness her daughter lives nearby and was able to take her in to live with them until she decided what to do next. We just can’t imagine losing everything. I will make this in her honor.

  5. Thank you Pat, this is a wonderful idea. I will donate to the Red Cross here in the UK and hope this will support victims of disasters such as the one that has hit the US.

  6. Thank you for setting your mind gears in motion, Pat. I think this is a fabulous idea and will do as you suggested. And also donate what we can to one of the charities you mentioned. I never doubted you’d do something big to help, and I’m glad to be a small part of it. 🩷

  7. Thank you, I’m from East TN about an 1 1/2 hours drive from the area that got hit so hard in TN in our area water is the one item that the sheriffs department and Mayor have been ask to supply now in our town water is being hard to find. It is so great to see all that is being sent up there and the volunteers that have gone. It will take years to rebuild from this. Thank goodness the citizens are helping. Proud to be from the Volunteer State.
