The Random picker decided my Logcabin quilt should live with Joann S who said

"My favorite quilt is the first quilt I ever made! My daughter wanted to learn to quilt and she convinced me to take a couple of classes at our fabric store – I was only mildly enthusiastic about quilting – even though I had been a sewer for years. I decided to check out additional classes for us at my local quilt shop and there on the wall was this wonderful quilt with birds on branches. When I asked about it – they told me they were having a retreat the following weekend to make this quilt! I signed up -( my daughter couldn’t attend for family reasons). I made that quilt, which I adore ( it hangs in my sewing room!). Since making that quilt, I am completely hooked on quilting! I had heard people talk about quilting as an addiction, but didn’t understand it until then. This was the quilt that got me to become a quilter!"

Congratulations Joann! I've emailed you

  1. Pat,
My favorite quilt for myself is one I made using fabric, scissors and sewing machine only (not even a seam ripper). I cut freehand from memory any block in my head and then figured out how to fit it together. It is wonky and extremely well loved. I quilted it with 30 weight pearl cotton and tied the knots on the top for texture. Points on triangles…who needs em? Boy did I get the stink eye from the quilt police. I made this liberated quilt in 1997 after taking a plaids and stripes class from Roberta Horton when the quilt police were going strong. I still get bewildered looks from quilters and non-quilters alike trying to figure out why nothing lines up. It is homey, interesting and unique but you would never call it a “Pretty” quilt.
Thank you for your generous sharing of your own quilting journey.
    Susan

  2. My favorite quilt I made was a pink and yellow wonky scrap log cabin quilt given for a baby blanket. I had a hard time letting it go.

  3. My grandmother who was born in 1902 made many quilts to keep her family warm and in later years gave satin quilts to each of her granddaughters who graduated from highschool. When she passed away in 1980, the year my youngest child was born (a daughter whom she had crochet a dainty white and pink afigan for) passed away. I joined a quilting group at a quilt shop that was going to make a Sampler queen size quilt. It was my first quilt. (in Granny’s honor) We had to make our templates on plastic graft, for each quilt block. It was so much fun to meet with this group of 8 women 1 time a week for 28 weeks. It was a wonderful experience and started me on my quilting journey. I was 29 at the time, I am 70 years old now. Thank You Pat for helping me keep my journey fun.

  4. My favorite Fall decoration is my small Ghost quilt that I hang on my front door which is a large glass panel. It can give friendly spooks to neighbors passing by.

  5. My favorite Quilt, so far, is my “Moma’s Garden” that I did many years ago! (Pat, you taught it at our VSQ guild) It was the first time I hand quilted and did turn Applique! It was in the same old fashion type fabrics as your original version. I am now starting a Modern version of it, (all work by machine and modern colors) and will hang them side by side.

  6. My first quilt I made at a beginner’s quilting class was a Log Cabin. I gifted it to my Grandma, and fortunately, I have recently it back after she passed away.

  7. My favorite quilt is the first one I made. It is a rail fence done in traditional patterns of greens, mostly florals. It measures 64×48. It was in 1998 and I took a basic quilting class with a dear friend at the local high school.

  8. Oh Pat I was on vacation, but I wanted to comment anyway… my favorite quilt was a trip around the world quilt that I made as a fairly new beginner to quilting! I used medium rusts oranges and peachie colors all batiks. It turned out absolutely beautiful and I was so proud of myself. I only had to take apart one section and swap it so it created the Diamond pattern.

  9. My current favorite quilt is one I finished last year using Pat’s Out of This World sew along pattern and made with Hocus Pocus print fabric. It’s almost time to bring it out again!

  10. My favorite quilt is my blue and yellow churn dash quilt. It reminds me of growing up at my aunts house – my happy place. The flowers in the fabric remind me of her garden and her home was decorated in shades of blue and yellow. I feel safe and loved underneath my quilt.

  11. My favorite quilt is my most recent. It’s Kaffe Fassett fabrics and out of my wheelhouse but such a favorite eye popping colors. Love your YouTube channel. I start my morning with you and a cup of tea.

  12. My favorite quilt is the one I just finished! It’s the “Fly the Flag” quilt by Amy Smart, Diary of a Quilter. I love your patterns, books, and videos Pat! Thank you for the inclusive community.
