Never Ending Love Block 8 Solstice Sew Along with Pat

If you have not listened to my talk show yet, I had a SUPER show on Monday and I think you should take a listen. With 6 years of shows already, there is a lot of super quilting talk that you can listen to while sewing, ironing, waiting on people like we have to do. Each week I talk with 3 to 4 guests about quilting, this week we took a look at how to think about getting rid of projects/fabric that we no longer love or want to work on. … plus more!

“Never ending love”, you knew a heart was coming .. right?   AND this is my first block that is upsized!

Since we have more blocks now I’m switching up the presentation. Single block, then below is the position in my layout. I have the layout directions in progress but other projects have taking priority at the moment.

For the over achievers in the group. … the little squares are 2″ finished, which means you sew up 2.5″ squares.

So what size is this puppy anyway??

Block 8 is an 18″ square, 18.5″ x 18.5″ before you sew it into your quilt. The bottom left square is also that size block

Are you sticking with ONLY 12″ blocks? The center unit is 12″ with the hearts… you can see that in the pattern!

The really cool thing about this project is that a lot of people are doing ‘Firsts’. First pieced block, first sew along, first time reading patterns.

I wanted to share that this class is a super skill builder. If you want to learn a bit more about piecing, I highly recommend this class!

BUY the Class for $19.99, and if you have this one already, take a look at the OTHER classes under $20.00

  1. I’m frustrated with the website.. I was using a day off from working to catch up by downloading the last 4 Solstice blocks. Notice when reading the notes before downloading that several of the blocks had pictures posted on them. Decided I go back later to look through other people’s selections since I have no one locally to share with.. My Internet Explorer crashed (pretty much a normal occurrence these days and now I simply can’t find where the pictures are posted. Can anyone tell me where or how to find the pictures again?

  2. Oh boy – I’m starting to get behind on the Solstice quilt. You know what that means – the beginning of the end. HAHA! Thank you for sharing this with us. You inspire me every day. ~smile~

  3. Since you so kindly sent me the instructions for making a comment, I must try it out. It took awhile to get to your little picture because I was admiring all the heart blocks. I learned two things – I am a rule follower and I need to get out of the box and try a variation. Thanks for all the sew-alongs. You are keeping me busy. Fellow quilters – your blocks are divine!

  4. Bloque 8 me parece divertido. Lástima que continúe con la pierna mala. No puedo coser. Tengo que estar en cama todo el día. Saludos Pat Sloan y muchas gracias por tu arte.

  5. Is this where I comment that I’d love to try a fat quarter quilt?

  6. I am loving this sew along as well. I appreciate you giving us the layout. I’m working with a group of fat quarters I already have, so having the layout will help with fabric choice. Love, love, love the layout. Thank you!

  7. I simply love this block and can’t wait to make it. Pat, oh my goodness, where do you get all your energy. You are like the ever ready bunny!!!!! 🙂

  8. I am having SO much fun with this! I wanted to do the splendid sampler but it looked overwhelming to me. This one is perfect! So fun! I can’t wait until Wednesdays to see the new block! And I even did my very first applique because of it! I can’t even express how much fun this is! Thank you Pat!

  9. I absolutely love the setting and the asymmetrical blocks! So ME! I’m using leftover Provence fabrics from another favorite quilt I made, and just having so much fun with this! I look forward to seeing what’s new on Wednesday, and can’t wait to get started!

  10. Colette, just cut out a square of paper the size of your finish inner block fold in half and cut a heart, then a smaller square for a smaller heart etc or print pattern at 50% or 40% or what ever will make them fit
Looks like the hearts are free form and not echos of each other

  11. Oh what fun. I am loving this unsymetrical multi sized blocks.
I have wanted to do a multi sized star quilt for ever but this is even better fun fun fun

  12. Oh boy is right! I made the previous blocks 6-inches (finished size). I think I will make this block #8 at 12-inches (finished size). So I think I’m going to change the 3.5″ strip to 2.5″ and the 2.5″ strips will be 1.5″. The applique will be WAY out of my comfort zone!
