**My Going on a Picnic Top**

I'm so excited to have this done, it was such a labor of love to be able to run this after I broke both my wrists. My friend Ann pieced all the blocks for me and Gregg helped get all the patterns in order.. actually I can't believe I made it happen!

In the video below I talk about auditioning the border and next I need to sew up a backing and ship it to the spa.

If I were to change the border (i'm not.. watch the video) this plaid is a great option.

I'll be adding one more 2.5" wide border on the outside then ordering some binding fabric in blue

Fabric:

  • I'm using a bundle of Golden Rod FQ bundle a. https://shrsl.com/2dj3q  and more options at   https://shrsl.com/2dhtw
  • You will not use all of the fabric the bundle it is a working bundle and you can pick lights and darks from anything in it because there's plenty of fabric
  • I used the background for this block but you can use any fabrics.  You don't have to do it exactly like mine, make it your own watch my video for other power options you might like

Our Next Block Wednesday Sew Along Theme is 'Cozy Things'… it's going to be a super fun 9 block quilt

6a00d8341c976153ef026bde91bb22200c.jpg

***Cozy Things Mystery Sew Along Details***

This sew along theme is inspired by all things 'Cozy'.  I have some fun ideas that will bring us into fall and winter, when we can all use some coziness!

DETAILS:

  • RUNS:  October 14, 2020 to December 16, 2020
  • Blocks: 9 blocks, One new block a week. Finished block size 12" finished
  • SIZE: Lap size - DOWNLOAD the Supply list WITH layout below
  • Type of Blocks: Pieced
  • TIMING:  Wednesday around 7:30am EST. Email notice goes out noon-ish in my time zone, EST. The email is NEVER when the block is published.
  • Quilt Photo Sharing: Share at my Facebook community or at the end of each article. You can share your fabric down below! I am using the same photo share for all the Block Wednesday.

FAQ:

  • How many squares are in a layer cake? 42 squares 10" x 10". READ CAREFULLY as some companies sell 'petite' layer cakes with only 20 squares
  • Can I use a Fat Quarter Bundle I don't have a layer cake? - Yes!  A fat quarter is 18" x 20" .. a Layer Cake is 10" x 10"
  • Can I use Stash (fabric I own) I don't have a layer cake? - Yes!  Pull out a bundle of beautiful fabric
  • Do I need the extra fabrics? yes you need some of it. There are setting squares (download the supply list /layout pattern below). Some of the extra fabric is for the setting squares. Some is to add to blocks since layers cakes don't have variety. This will give me a common fabric in the blocks
  • Will I use all the fabric - Not all of it. With a layer cake you will use up some squares completely but some you might not use. And the extra fabrics won't be entirely used up.
  • Can you show me the blocks in advance? No, it's a mystery
  • What are the Technique? - All Easy Pieced. Each block will be named and a story/memory about something cozy
    • NOTE: The Block does NOT LOOK like the topic of the week. This is not a pictorial quilt. I do a topic as it is way more fun than just plopping out a block.  I love the memories and sometimes research that goes into the topic.  That keeps my Sew alongs fun and unique.

***Fabric Options***

As you see on the supply list below, I'm using a LAYER CAKE + extra fabric. You will have some left over.

If you want a fabric border buy for that, it is NOT part of the pattern but you may want to get it now as fabric may not be available later

I'm going to sew with Snow Sweet, see the very end after the supply list download for my bundle.

Now for some fabric suggestions

  1. Love the new line and all the different projects the other designers shared! Pat in don’t know how you do it! I was only able to work on my quilting for a short time today. My lawn was calling me! Mowed it for the last time! It’s getting cold in the north and time for this quilter to fly south!

  2. your going on a picnic is so happy I also really like the border you picked did you try just using the blue stripe as binding without adding anything else I think it would look great. anything you decide will be awesome they always are. love your videos
