The theme today is new for me Block #15……

Sometimes I still want to write that ‘Letter To Santa’… it’s so magic to believe that I write Santa and he will read it. I also love the Santa tracker.. what about you?
Years ago Macy’s had this full size mail box in the store where you could ‘mail your letter’ and I loved that idea so much. That was about 10 years ago.. I was trying to find a photo but only found a tiny one. I’ll keep looking!
I made the block in red and black first, which I LOVE, but it is a bit too strong to play with the others. So I made a 2nd to use. See the photo at the end.

About two years ago at Christmas time I spotted an amazing tin and shared a photo.. I should have bought one, but didn’t, and they were gone in a blink. This time I saw a Christmas tin and I DID buy it! YUMMY shortbread mini scotties.. and the tin is so darn cute!! I’m ready to turn it into a sewing notions box.
- SHARE your quilt block at the END!
- In each pattern I have a memory or story of my own. When You share your block at my Facebook group, or when you leave me a comment after posting your block, share YOUR memory with me!

Hi Pat,
well, guess my sign up worked this time so was able to catch up on getting all the blocks.
Not started yet as I said moved this summer and stuff is all over the place. Need to find a place for all, lol
Thanks for all you do. Love your brightness…
Shirley
This is my first sew a long and I am having a great time learning new skills. Thank you Pat for all the time and effort putting this together for all of us. I am putting shashing between my blocks as the material is so busy, so I am looking forward to seeing if I can do it! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all our Merry and Bright Sew A Long family.
Lana my next sew along is all planned right now, but I have surprises for 2019 so stay tuned!
Pat, I have enjoyed Merry and Bright so much! It is the most fun quilt that I have sewn. Would you consider doing a Valentine’s Day sew along after Christmas?
Thanks,
Lana
Darn. I started off not sure where it was on my machine since I haven’t sewn in maybe a year. So I was sewing using the middle of the right side of the presser foot. Then I realized that resulted in 1/4 inch. So I started then using the inside edge of the right side of the presser foot. That results in probably a little more than a scant 1/4 inch. So my blocks are not consistently sized. I also used spray starch on some of the fabrics until I found out that if things didn’t quite fit, I couldn’t stretch the starched fabric to fit in the space meant for it. I guess I’ll just fumble along and hope these quilts come out halfway decent.
Kristine just go to the project page for the previous blocks

I’t right on the top navigation bar
You are welcome Ellen!
actually Lynne you should not have to square these blocks if you are making accurate 1/4″ seam allowances. Instead, check the measurement each time I tell you what it should be. Do that for every sewn unit and the end will be 12 1/2″
Praying to be able to get the previous blocks. This is so exciting to be able to make this wonderful quilt no matter what time of year. Love it.
Please show me where and how to obtain this pattern.
The connection to this site has been a uplift to my heart and soul. Blessings
This mystery quilt has been a first for me. Thoroughly enjoyed the process. Thank you for this gift.
I’m stumped on how to square up my blocks. (I’ve only made one other quilt and it did not have blocks.) I started with the setting blocks and tried to follow this YouTube video:
https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?fr=yhs-mozilla-102&hsimp=yhs-102&hspart=mozilla&p=squaring+up+blocks+missouri+star+quilting#id=4&vid=4dcd918c43c66af81728de1d5b1859c1&action=view
I got my 12-inch ruler, put painter’s tape on the 9-1/2″ lines, found the center of the setting block and lined up the seams on the top and bottom of the center square with lines on the ruler. But one side of the block is past the 9-1/2″ tape (too big), and the bottom is inside the tape (too short), etc. I imagine each block will be slightly different. I can’t cut anything with the big ruler on top of it. Sigh. Any suggestions?
Thanks so much for this quilt-along. It has been a blast. I’m making 3 of these Merry and Bright quilts!
me too Sue!
