I’m ready for a trip to this place, Block #14 is about….

Heading in to April I'm ready to start some planting, but it's really too soon, this morning it was only 32 degrees, brrr!

Our front mulch is down, thank you Shipping Department! And I'm READY to plant .. but need to wait. Next best thing is a visit to the Garden Center, so our 14th block celebrates that Heaven on Earth filled with lovely flowers!

I have a few tips below for you.

Fabrics I'm Using

  • There are still kits if you love the fabric I'm using. This bundle makes me so happy to be working with it!
  • BUY A KIT

THE DOWNLOAD is ALWAYS at the end of my article HIGHLIGHTED IN PINK, so keep reading

  • I had a few questions recently about how I cut into fabrics from kits.  My main answer is to ONLY cut what you will need.
  • I never cut edge to edge, that is wasteful. Unless a pattern tells you to do that, cut only what you need. This is what my fabric looks like at this point. And I'll be using up almost all of that dark purple.
  • All the triangles cut with my Gemini Die Cut

For the center I layered the fabric right sides together so I could cut and sew.

For the rest of the blocks I layered the word print and the purple to cut all the triangles.

There is very little left of the purple.

I think about the shape I'm cutting and how I can layer it for effective use. My video shows you how I did some of the triangles from the corner of the fabric.

  1. Hi Pat
Your photo of Block #14 includes, a spool of purple thread and a pair of scissors with wide finger openings. I’m wondering if you could provide info on brand and/or source for the scissors. These look like a good size to keep beside my sewing machine. Due to old age/arthritis, I have very large thumb joints making my old faithful embroidery scissors too small to comfortably use now. Thank you. I’m looking forward to your Fireside Chat this evening!

  2. Our Garden Center is a Small Farm Store . They have everything for your garden all local including plant starts

  3. I’m glad you answered the question about cutting from the kit fabric. This is the first time I’ve used a kit so I was worried about having enough. My daffodils survived the freeze and soon it will be planting season. What to plant🤔 Will be the next question!
