Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…

  • Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
  • Take a walk, I want to walk more
  • Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.

The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. 1. I plan to finish at least 6 UFO’s, learn something new everyday and be gentle with myself. Thank you for all the hard work you do for us!

  2. I will finish a few UFOs. One is a pinwheel lap quilt. Another one is a different wall hanging for each month of the year.

  3. I am starting over with some new colors doing the Splendid Sampler Blocks ~ and then framing each block with some blender fabric ~ getting ready to put this all together.
This SS is so addicting. Looking every Sunday and Thursday to see what the new block will be ~! so fun.
Thank you Pat for making it a great and Splendid year !

  4. I think I did comment, but just in case- I started off the new year still sick with that stupid “viral crud thing.” I even went to the doctor about it and that is what he called it… Since then I have gotten the 3 solstice blocks done, I have worked on the Splendid Sampler, and I started working on my #6 on the list of UFO’s which happens to be the Mystery Quilt “Vacation Time” from 2015. I have about a million (actually it was 100) little half square triangles to do for the taffy border… they are why I kept putting off that one LOL. Got about half of them sewn on Tuesday, need to finish that and then press and trim them.

  5. I’m beginning my first quilt along (thanks Pat!) this year. I also vow in 2017 to make something for ME! I enjoy making gifts for others, but I want to decorate my walls with a few quilts just my style.

  6. I started 2017 by making a list of quilts that I have started, quilts that I already have fabric for, and quilts that I want to do, but still need fabric for. I joined the Solstice block challenge and just downloaded the Children’s Library Mystery Club block pattern. I am preparing for our annual family bingo, which is at my house in a couple of weeks. This year we have several milestone events to plan for, my dad’s 80th birthday, and 20, 30, and 40 year anniversaries. I want to spend more time with family, quilt, Nashville Vacation, quilt, start a family cookbook, quilt, start walking more, and did I mention quilt 🙂

  7. I really need to get my sewing area organized so I can get started on all the sew alongs I want to do plus many UFO’s.

  8. This year I am sewing again. I have not been able to sew since I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and melanoma last year. I am finally healthy enough to see again. I have already completed a top this year

  9. I said I would make a friend a quilt, so I am cutting, cutting and cutting so I can get it sewn together. And I am doing the winter challenge, never joined one before, kinda new to this stuff, a year in. But I am loving the challenge, but the biggest part of the challenge is waiting on Wednesday for that new block, lol. I hope to sew more this year.

  10. I love your FBI group. So much good information and wonderful pictures. I have even been drawn into the solstice blocks. Doing mine today 😊

  11. I started the new year by planning out the new quilts I want to make. Then I found your solstice challenge yesterday. So will be working on that soon. Can’t wait to see what I have to use. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with all of us.

  12. I think I’m too late to win but I’m kicking off 2017 by doing more sewing in the first 4 days than I normally do in a month! I’ve also joined the APQ UFO Challenge.

  13. Today I am going to my parents to help my mom set up her new computer. After that I will be home to break out my quilting for a baby quilt that I should have started in October and the baby is here. Dad is a deer hunter so one side will be camouflage and orange with a deeper applique in the centre block, the other side will be much more girly so multipurpose.

  14. Today I will make sure my hubby has a safe entrance to the house by shoveling the snow while he is at work and salting the walkway. Then it is time to look at progress being made on everyone’s Winter Solstice projects, commenting as appropriate, and get ideas for my own blocks. Sipping a warm cup of tea as I prep my Solstice blocks will be next on the list. Tonight is bell choir (“Ding-a-Ling”) practice along with many of the ladies who introduced me to quilting and this group. Somewhere in there should be time to go through and start organizing my stash and maybe make an item or two for the church missions fund raiding bazaar, lol!

  15. I’m working on downsizing and getting my house organized. I want to be able to sit and sew without worrying about the mess around me, so I’m taking steps to make it ‘sew’.

  16. I have cleared my table so that I can FINALLY start the Solstice blocks. Once those are done I will finish a UFO and then pull the blocks off my design wall and start sewing them into rows.

  17. I’m kicking off 2017 by reorganizing my sewing space! I bought a great cabinet for my fabric, so I’m ready to go. I think seeing all my beautiful fabrics through the glass will be a real inspiration to get sewing! Happy New Year!

  18. My goals – walk more, spend more time with family and get my crafts room organized. Thanks Pat for all the challenges and this group – it is the best Facebook page ever!!!

  19. To start 2017 off right I organized my sewing area! I’m a brand new quilter and have 4 projects on the go. I joined the Solstice block sew along and I’m loving it! I have a wonderful mentor and a supportive family, quilting helps me deal with my anxiety and stress for which im very grateful. Can’t wait to see what I can accomplish this year!

  20. 2017 has me in my sewing room more, I finally bought myself a good machine and am enjoying quilt making much more. I’m also going to step out of my comfort zone and try more difficult techniques. I’m also preparing for a return home to the Phoenix area from a temporary move to Washington state. Sewing will be my happy place during this stressful time.

  21. Pat, I used to make the same. I really believe that what I do on January first, I will do it the rest of the year.
So I saw, read a book, paint, played with my son some table games, & all of this I made on the beach.😍
In this moment I am making:
-some little UFO’s a beginning Last year
    -the splendid sampler
    -solstice project
    -and the Child librar
I hope I can finish all of them.
Have a wonderful and bless 2017!

  22. We finally have the first snowfall of the season so I plan on locking myself in my sewing room and sew, sew, sew! Well, in between the long gazes at Mother Nature’s gift of snow!

  23. I plan to spend some time in my sewing room today finishing some projects begun in 2016, presently working on mystery quilt and a scrap buster . Look forward to following you and also learning new blocks.

  24. I am going to organize my stash and decide what to use for all the projects running through my head. Ummmm and I have to admit I am hoping I will need to go shopping to get fillers and blenders.

  25. I kicked off 2017 by joining the Winter Solstice challenge – 3 blocks down and anxiously waiting for next week’s pattern! I am also a third of the way through cutting the pieces for a queen size quilt and I have planned out 2 quilts to give to 2 different princesses who will turn one this year – one in March and one in May. This is going to be a great year!

  26. My plan involves putting together the back of a yoga quilt mat that I finished the top for 3 months ago. It’s on my 2017 UFO list and It is calling me!!

  27. I am working on a quilt for my daughter to take to college. She’s now into her third year! I got a job right before she started her freshman year. I just dont know how to work and do the things I should and have any time left to do what I want. That being said, I have the fanric picked out and some cut out for the solstice challnge and I’m really excited about starting. So I guess this is my year to find a way to put sewing/quilting back in the balance.

  28. I am working on too many projects, as usual. Loving the Winter Solstice. I really enjoy your Blog ,Pat. I would love to win!

  29. I am printing off the quilt block patterns for the children’s library block of the month as well as blocks 1-3 of the winter solstice challenge. I have never done anything like this and am new to the group. I am very excited to try this blocks and see what the year has in store for me. Thanks to the group for sharing your talents, love seeing the pictures of everyone’s projects 😀

  30. I am trying to finish a few ufo’s and make at least 2 new quilts. Plus my married daughter and I are going to make a quilt together.

  31. I worked on the Soltice blocks. I’m all caught up and they look fantastic. I am checking off my UFO list and having a great time so far. Feels good to finish a project.
