Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…

  • Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
  • Take a walk, I want to walk more
  • Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.

The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

  1. I ama cleaning and organizing my sewing room! It feels so good and I found some missing projects and rulers! Whoo Hoo!

  2. I started the New Year with a 5 km run in -10 weather, followed by brunch with an amazing bunch of very supportive people. Then I finished the afternoon with a little quilting time! A great start to the New Year. Yesterday I joined a gym with my “sister from another mister” so we can drag each other there! Hope your new year is just what you want it to be!

  3. I am starting 2017 off by putting together some patterns and fabric for a friend that wants to learn to sew!

  4. I kicked off the New Year. By staying up with the kids and watching the ball drop on TV. Good thing New York is an hour ahead of us, because by 11 I was ready for bed!

  5. Well, I am the Director at a small senior center and this Friday, Jan 6, a long arm quilting machine and 10 foot frame are being delivered to us courtesy of one of our senior MEN (one that doesn’t even quilt!!!!) So I guess you can figure out what I will be doing!!!!! The few quilters I have here are very excited to be able to quilt our own raffle quilts along with a big project I want to start soon that is making lap quilts for nursing homes and veterans. Personally, I have several UFO’s, and several IMST (in my spare time) quilts to do. Fabric seems to just jump into my cart at the fabric stores!!!!

  6. two jobs, organize all my new fabric, happy day. and continue quilting a Christmas gifts, the elves are a little late. lol

  7. I finally did the binding on a quilt. It is now on the bed in my guest bedroom. I also started a quilt kit that has been waiting on my cutting table since June ’15. While that may not be a long time for some, I have only been quilting for a little over 6 years.

  8. I just moved this week so I am putting together furniture in my new sewing room; as soon as I do that, I need to re-acquaint myself with my beauties (ufos) that have marinating in storage since May! Cannot wait to finish now that all the packing, cleaning, and moving are done, done, done!

  9. I started my 2017 by putting away all my Christmas decorations!
Spent time sewing on 1/2 and back to work on 1/3!

  10. I spent the morning with my uncle who has been put under Hospice care and the afternoon and evening with my invalid brother and his family. I had not seen any of them in 1-1/2 years. Love your loved ones, folks! This year I’ll start a quilt for my brother that reminds him of the poppies in Mom and Dad’s yard. They were so beautiful and we always looked forward to them blooming.

  11. I finished off 2 small UFO’s, started a tote bag & a beach bag. Lots of UFOs that still need to be finished so my goal is to have 2 quilt tops done by end of February.

  12. I am working on my UFOs, sewing and ironing patches for the Bonnie Hunter En Provence 2016 Mystery, binding two baby sized quilts, and quilting two other tops that are waiting on me.

  13. I kicked off 2017 on the 31st with a sew in with friends. Its something I want to try to continue to do throughout the year. I managed to finish a king size quilt that a friend will quilt on her long arm, and make the two solstice blocks (in blue and white) and cut out and fuse a UFO wool block.
2017 will have to be the year of the UFO – but I also downloaded Be my Neighbor – I am thinking I have room for one more UFO…..

  14. Hi,
What to do first right? Well going to continue with my Splendid Sampler blocks very far behind, relearn my embmroidery software and use it again, try to get in shape, walk more, go visit mom in the nursing home, I go every second day, if possible will go more often, put a push on and finish renovation my home, try and heal and be good to myself, still grieving over the loss of my husband, but most of all do not take on so many projects at once so to not get overwhelmed and end up with too many ufo’s.

  15. I did 108 Sun Salutations to usher in the New Year followed by a day of yoga, and a lot of the time thinking about sewing. First thing Monday morning, mmmmm, to my sewing room!!! Working on finishing a quilt for my grandson and cutting out a new one for, oh gosh who knows!!!

  16. I am cleaning up after all of the holiday projects. I also made my UFO list. Our guild had a UFO challenge last year and I made progress, but there are some stragglers.

  17. To start my new year I sewed, sewed, sewed!! I had a tumbler quilt started but it needed to be wider so I added some more rows, of course there was some ripping involved but I completed the top on Sunday and started sewing another project into rows, my word for the year is COMPLETE!! Thanks for your encouragement!!

  18. I started tackling my scrap bin to become more organized with my fabrics. Keeping what I love and purging what I don’t. My goal for 2017 is to complete more projects, go to more retreats, make a special quilt for my daughter’s wedding and get fit. I love the beginning of a new year. A new year, a new beginning, New intentions. Happy New Year!

  19. I joined the Pincushion SewAlong hosted by @zeriano on Instagram, making super cute pincushions. Otherwise, I am finishing two BOMs early this year.

  20. What I did to kick off 2017 is to move my computer out of our bedroom and into the office, move my computer desk to my sewing room to use as my new sewing table. Then the bedroom was rearranged and cleaned, the closet was also gone through and preparation began for putting away Christmas decor. A van full of donations went to Goodwill, 5 lawn and leaf bags of trash were discarded and as soon as all the Christmas stuff is down, the sewing room will get put back together. All of this done while I was sick with asthma and getting my extra energy from ventolin and steroids 🙂 Hopefully normal sleep will return soon!! Happy New Year!

  21. I started the next clue for the Mystery Quilt of the quilting group in our community called “Disappearing 4-Patch”. Sometimes it’s hard to get all 4 of us together once a month!! I’m also trying to finish up some paper work from last year. Then I can just sew, sew and sew some more!!

  22. I am trying to organise my sewing area so I can get started on doing some sewing. Looking forward to making some things I’ve not done before.

  23. Hi well I was working on making some fabric baskets to organize my fabrics with and stack in my cedar closet, when I got a phone call from my 101 year old grandmother that my mother was taken to the ER.I lost my mother who was 82 at 10:00 this morning. Please pray for us.

  24. To kick off 2017, I will begin by getting everything organized, so when I start working on my projects, everything will be easily located. Let’s just say as the holidays progressed, the mess in the quilting room and office progressed, too…. Next, I’m going to set goals for the year – happy quilt-y goals – and work very hard to achieve them. Sew alongs…..UFOs….fun projects…..will all make the list!

  25. I have kicked off my year by just learning of the official start of a new contract for my business and a potential referral for another! 2016 was a trying year, so I feel like I am off to a good start. I also hope to be more positive in general and also more ORGANIZED. And work on becoming a better sewist, of course! 😉

  26. I will be working on the Solstice blocks and some memory pillows and a memory quilt for a friend. I have never worked with triangles but I am excited to get started. I think it will be fun I have never done anything like this. Looking forward to learning new techniques. Will be working on these in the evenings have to go back to work tomorrow.

  27. I’ve started the new year by sewing flannel squares together for the quilt I’m making for my significant other.

  28. I started the day with a dip in the Atlantic Ocean taking part in the Polar Plunge. While it is NE FL and the water is not as cold as in other parts of the country, I still felt that it was colder than what I normally would like to swim in. I also made a list of the projects that I have in progress and ones that I want to start in this upcoming year. Major goal for the year is to finish quilts and get my UFO pile smaller. Second goal for the year is to get into better shape. I started that the week before Christmas by starting back at hot yoga. I’m going as many days during the week as possible and hoping that I can continue this for the long run. 1 day down this week, 3 more to go (as I already know that I am missing one for the guild meeting night).

  29. On New Years Day my husband and I went to our friends and had a wonderful southern meal. It was excellent!!! Thank you for the giveaway 😊

  30. I will continue to plug along and teach myself quilting. I became stuck after something to happened to my family (I was sewing at the time) and my MOJO comes and goes…2017…I will sew!!

  31. I enjoyed spending time with my husband, worked on a Splendid Sampler block, tried my hand at quilting with my embroidery module and went snowshoeing. A fun and productive day.

  32. My goal is to complete my first quilt. It may be small, but I will complete from beginning to end. I’ve already learned so much by working through Pat Sloan’s first two blocks. Thank you Pat for sharing your time and talent with us.

  33. Sew! And lists. I’m making a list of projects I want to make this year, including possible fabrics to use. But then there’s the quilt-alongs that I find so hard to resist…

  34. I spent New Year’s Day celebrating Christmas Day, Part 2.
Our son, dau-in-law, and g’kids were in AZ with DIL’s parents 12/25, hence Christmas part 2.
Then this coming weekend we’ll have Christmas part 3 with our nephew and hopefully, niece – who are coming down from San Fran.
What a wonderful way to start the New Year — with our family!!!

  35. Hi, I take the first month of the new year to finish projects and sew whatever else I want to. All year I sew for my quilt shop. I love January this year I am treating myself to your quilt along! Wahoo
