I’m starting off with one that has to make anyone smile, Building Snowmen!! I always hope the first snow of the year is ‘good snowman’ snow. Not too light, and not too wet..With enough of it!
When you make your block share a favorite building snowman story with me!

*** Tips ***
- All the shapes for each block can be cut from a Layer cake or Fat Eight or larger pieces.
- Here are the strips from the Fat Eight. If you have the layer cake, you'll have a little extra strip left.
- NOTE – if you are using a layer cake and don't have 2 of the same fabric for the dark, then cut the squares from a different fabric. Every layer cake is different. IF You use what I am, it does work.

- I like to keep organized.
- So I lay all the pieces out in the directions I want them to be in, then I sew.

Getting caught up before block 4 is released. So much fun! Thank you for this quilt along.
Just found you again last week so thought I would join in
We are coming into summer here down under but my first block reminds me of when we lived in the country and had pine trees. Occasional we got snow and one year my children managed to build a snowman
Where is Block 2? It is Wednesday but I haven’t found the second block. Help!
I wasn’t going to do this one because I haven’t finished the last one! But your blocks are so easy and wonderful. Hopefully someday I will get the others done. You are a treasure Pat Sloan!
I’m just waiting from my fabric to arrive that I ordered from your shop actually Kimberly shop. I can’t wait to get started but I’m waiting for the fabric so I can. I’ve done several of your mystery quilts and I really enjoy doing them they are so much fun thank you Pat
that is great Sharon, glad you joined me!
I don’t own the Fat Quarter Shop, Kimberly does. She is my friend and I work with her so she puts together the things I need for my projects.
glad you found it!
Cynthia the reorder sold out, so another reorder was done. The layer cake is available. I suggest you get that now. You could have done block 1 with it. Then either select another light and border or just wait
Bev you download the pattern for this block in this post.
It is hightlighted PINK and says DOWNLOAD.. look above
thank you!
Pegi you can get it at http://shrsl.com/1sykv
Wednesday has now replaced Friday as my favorite day of the week! Thanks Pat for the fun!
Pat, didn’t you demonstrate a magnetic pin holder that made the pins point to the center? I am trying to find out where to purchase one.
Thanks
Is there a link to download a printed pattern? Haven’t been able to locate it.
Thanks for your help.
When can we expect the fabric you used to be available?
Building a snowman was the only thing I liked about winter! After that I just wanted to be insde where it was warm! I’m doing my quilt in red, white n blue. It will look more summer than winter!
First time following a mystery quilt, first time using batiks. So far so good
I just discovered this sew along today!! I signed up for future blog notifications! I also ordered my fabric just now from the Fat Quarter Shop! I can’t wait to get started!
Found it…in big letters DOWNLOAD. Sorry and thank you. I am excited, this first one is a beauty.
Is there a written instruction for cutting sizes? I can’t seem to find it. Beautiful block, thank you.
This is exciting! Love your web site. I didn’t know you were my favorite fat quarter shop!
The basket, the houses it’s all beautiful! Thanks! for the free blocks.
I love the block! Can’t wait to get started. Im waiting for the material to come in. This will be my first sew along that i actually do with you’ll!! My colors are dk blue, light blue, snowflakes, dots, white, green! I may throw in more later. But i cant do my block until next week, so I’ll do 2 next week. Wow! You are all fast, already blocks up! ( glad i re read what i wrote, it said you all are fat, not fast! Lol)
Shelly it’s right above in the post you commented on
you can make it pink if you want!
Bonita I did not.. you can see my background fabric at the project page
Cindy Watch my video on that which I loaded today. I am making sure you can get this from a Layer cake. So a F8 bundle is similar size (if it has the same number of fabrics.. not less) a FQ is twice as much fabric as i showed you
Can’t wit to get started
Thank you again Pat, this looks like fun as always.
This looks like a fun block Pat, Thank you.
Cheers,
maggie
The Fat Eighth and Fat Quarter Bundles are all different sizes. Which is the best for what we are doing?
I am excited to join you in this adventure, my first ever🤗
OOOhh looks like fun!! Love snowman!!
It’s your quilt make it how you like. I’m making mine a light teal mix.
Another fun QAL! I’ll be working on the block tonight!!!! Thanks Pat for having these quilt a longs!!!
in your block #1, is one of the colors the “background” we were supposed to choose??
Looks so pretty. Can’t wait to get started!
Pat will provide each block, every Wednesday, on her blog. Today was the first block. That’s why it’s called a ‘Mystery’… meaning of the word ‘mystery’ is ‘to reveal’. 🙂
Could I use any colors of fabric or should I stay with winter blues?
Where do you get the pattern
I’m ready to start this, using Sweet Violet layer cake from my stash.
This looks interesting so far! I’m on the road right now so I can’t get started right away. And so many other projects that need to be done! Tough choices!! At least I can still collect the blocks for future use. Thanks!!
Nevermind, I found it. Sorry for not looking more carefully.
I’m excited to start this QAL! Perhaps I’ve missed it, but could you please share how much backing we will need?
