This is the shipping Departments family church. It's also the church my parents were married in and over 39 yrs ago, I was married here too.

Rebuilt in the 1950s it is a beautiful church just off main street in the town Gregg grew up in. The town my mom grew up in. And it's the town my dad grew up in.

TIP:

When making this block I was trying to work in more 'blue' . I tested 2 of the larger scale blue prints by cutting the strips. Since there are a lot of busy prints, the more solid reading blue that I finally selected won out. But I really wanted one of these, sometimes you have go with simple to be effective.

I don't see it as wasteful to cut and audition this fabric. The strips are 2.5" wide. so I subcut them into 2.5" squares for my scrap system.

  1. Pat, can you tell me where the church is located? It looks a lot like the church my parents were married in located in Texas.

  2. My memory of a house of worship is best described in the hymn “The Littke White Church in the Vale”. Most of the churches I attended as a child were just that a little white church. But, the church I was married in looks more like yours Pat, a big gothic style church in the city. It had a pipe organ with pipes going all around the entire inside!

  3. I have the most problems with deciding light, dark, and medium. If I don’t look at yours I don’t know which material to use. I would have thought the blue was the dark. I would like a course on this so that I may become a better quilter. Thank you.

  4. Pat, I seem to not be getting any e-mails from you anymore! I have signed up twice and still nothing is coming. Can you help me? I love your blog and all of your sew alongs! Kristy

  5. The Episcopal church on Main St in our city is on the property of church founder and colonial leader Sir William Johnson, 1st Baronet (1715-1774). It is the second church on this site; the original church having burned in 1836. I can hardly wait to get home from work on Wednesday’s to start sewing!! Thank you

  6. I wish I had known how to mark my machine so I would get a consistent quarter inch seam every time and how important it is to have a precise quarter inch seam! Also, the importance of accurate cutting. It really helps to press the fabric before cutting to get an accurate cut.

  7. It’s looking so good with the sashing and cornerstones!!! I’m still trying to figure out what fabrics I’m going to use! Thanks for a fun QAL!

  8. I wish I would have known to starch and iron my fabruc before cutting, it is so much easier to get a nicer 1/4 inch seam with stiffer fabruc

  9. There are 4 FQ per yard
So each of my bundles have a different set of FQs
And you won’t have the variety with yardage
Just start making some blocks and see what you think!

  10. Hi Pat, In the General Store block layout, you know you have one of the Cheeky sashing strip sets being displayed (2nd sashing row far-right). I figure you are just using the strip set, so the block layout doesn’t have any gaps. Just mentioning it in case you hadn’t noticed yet. Happy Quilting!!! 🙂

  11. I wish someone would have told me how addictive it can be so many patterns ,so many downloads, so many Beautiful fabric’s and how wonderful it is to give so many warm Quilts away and see the smiles.

  12. Hi…If I am using yardage instead of fat quarters can you please tell me how much I need for just the blocks? I will be using 5 different fabrics. Thank You!
