Block #5 is sweet and cold, the Ice-Cream Parlour! I can't wait to hear your stories about ice-cream, but first.. a photo.

On our travels I'm lucky to be able to 'test out' many darling ice cream places. This was a stop years ago in Ridgeway PA. The 'Two Scoops' was such a cute shop.

What is your Favorite Flavor?

TIP for trimming:

  • I really like using this Simple Folded Corners ruler. Makes a nice clean cut and I don't ever slip!
  • Place the first horizontal line on the seam
  • trim

TIP for piecing:

Often when piecing we just layer the units and ZOOM! But some blocks require us to step it down a notch or two on the speed. If you take a few seconds to do this you'll nail those intersections.

  • Align so that the 1/4" is at the point where the top and bottom units meet. Use a ruler to measure that 1/4" as accuracy does count here.
  • Put a pin to hold them.
  • Now peek and see that you have hit the bottom in the right spot.
  • Sew the seam!

I'm having such fun with the Country Store fabric, it really feels like Americana!

how do you like my Garden Gnomes?

The cheeky fabric is like working with cotton candy, I am so in love with these blocks!

  1. My favorite flavors are pistachio and orange pineapple, so I included both colors in the block. Also we often rode bikes to the ice cream shop.

  2. Not too many memories of ice cream shops. Mainly Baskin Robbins these years. There was an awesome one in Fredricksberg, Texas.
We are in the Ruby Mountains in Nevada right now. It’s amazing! So much beauty. No cell reception.

  3. We had the Ice Cream Mart. My dad really liked their malts. I also liked Chocolate Almond in a sugar cone at the Howard Johnson’s restaurant.

  4. My favorite ice cream is sea salt caramel. Love to go to our local ice cream shop The Emporium in Big Rapids, MI

  5. My favorite ice cream parlor is Stewart’s Shops. They have the most delicious ice cream in upstate New York! Always make new flavors to celebrate the seasons. My favorite flavor is Crumbs Along The Mohawk.

  6. Love the picture of you with your ice cream cone. I am so enjoying Main St. I look forward to Wednesday for the next block.I make sure my block is done by the week end just waiting for the next surprise. Also love your Fireside Chat you have so many great tips. You are the best.

  7. My favourite icecream is pistachio but only one scoop as it’s very rich. The best I’ve ever tasted is Biagi Gelateria in Sarzana, Italy. Their Semifreddo alla Pappa Reale (Royal Jelly Parfait) is to die for!
I’m really enjoying this quilt-along, so much I’m making two of each Block (!), one with scraps from my stash, plus a Confetti quilt from any scraps. We’re downsizing soon so my stash needs some reducing.
Thank you Pat for everything you do, especially your tips. I now have a hanging design board made from “clicky” fleece and a piece of scrap wood so I can “audition my fabric”. Another step to patchwork proficiency!

  8. I LOVE ALL ICE CREAM! chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, salted caramel, mint chocolate chip, peanut butter fudge, and on and on and on!

  9. I love your garden gnomes. I have many out in my garden. Thank you for the Main Street sew along, I got my friendship group doing them.

  10. I keep trying to add my block. I’ve done it each week but for some reason it won’t allow me to this week.

  11. How fun to see you sitting on Main Street in Ridgway, my hometown! Cutest downtown with the best restaurants and shops!

  12. I really love this sew along. I look so forward to Wednesdays for the next block! Thank you for having this for the summer months !!

  13. In my home town, we had a place called “The Sweet Shoppe” that had candy, ice cream and sodas – we usually went there to get “cherry cokes” and listen to the jukebox. We went to another town for ice cream – a place called Miller’s Creamery – really good ice cream. When I got married we would go get ice cream at a place called Alinosi’s in Detroit – their ice cream was expensive but extremely good! Of course, there was always Sanders – anybody who grew up in the Detroit area knows of them!

  14. My favorite is cappuccino crunch. We have the cutest little ice cream shop here called the Ice Cream Doctor abd you order by dose.

  15. My favorite ice cream shop – Doumar’s Drive In in Norfolk Virginia. I was born & raised in Norfolk. Doumar’s is an old fashionec drive in. Pull into a parking space, turn on your lights & a waitress comes to your car (they have eatin also). No one writes down your order, it is by memory & I’ve never had an order wrong. Tray is delivered & clipped to your car window. Need more food, turn on your lights. You don’t pay till you finish eating. Best of all Abe Doumar, who started the restaurant in 190 with his brother, invented the waffle ice cream cone at the St. Louis Worlds Fair. His machine makes 4 cones at a time and are hand-rolled. The machine still makes all the cones they sell and in the summer they roll it out into the parking lot and you can stand & watch them being made. Broken cones are used as topping on one of their sundaes. You just can’t beat Doumar’s. P.S. They sell a great Eastern Carolina BBQ sandwich & cheeseburgers.

  16. Oh!!! Mint Chocolate Chip Sundae with Marshmallow topping!!!!! We went to the ice cream shop after choir practice every week. this was my favorite. still is today at 74 years old.

  17. This is a cute, cute block! My favorite ice cream is anything caramel. Just please don’t add nuts. Not in my ice cream anyway.

  18. I do look forward to Wednesdays! Love seeing the email come in and racing to see what this weeks pattern is! Thank you for the fun!

  19. I have been to that ice cream shop when I lived in the area many years ago. I’m behind on my blocks, but they’re printed and the fabric (Country Store) is patiently waiting. I love the block. Thanks for everything you do. Every Wednesday is like Christmas morning!
