The Honey Bee block has a little applique! It's a fun shape to fussy cut fabric. Look for a image on your fabric that can be featured. When you use my method of applique it's very easy to position.  In the pattern is also a 'variation' for an QUICK scrap busting quilt.. see below… because I have a question..

I was playing around with the colors and thought what if I removed the applique, then just did 2 colors in the block.

Then.. what if I alternated that.. and put them side by side… here is what it looks like!

Now it needs a name… because variation of a honey bee is not a good name.. Leave me a comment to name this scrap busting quilt!

  1. What a brilliant idea – removing the applique and it is a nine-patch framed. I love the ideas others have shared like checkers. I guess I’m not feeling all that creative right now to come up with a unique name of my own. I look forward to hearing what you choose though! So cute – I want to make it now. Just a different twist on a nine-patch. You are inspiring me to write about it on my blog, if you don’t mind – with credit given to you of course.

  2. Checker squared. Honey bee is one of my favorite blocks, also. Thanks so much for sharing the challenge blocks, I enjoy the new ones each time you release them. And I have them all done! Staying caught up.

  3. I like Hopscotch, and Bees Knees, and Bee Landing, and Bee Squared… So many cute ideas here. I would think the Honeycomb would go better with the hexi shapes. All of them make me think of summer days and bees- the blocks also remind me of looking at farm fields from the air… and we do need those bees to keep our farms producing. I know I like to eat.

  4. I like the block! Honeycomb sounds good. Maybe an applique bee in a few places to replace the blossoms. Thanks!

  5. I think it should be named after you, since you made this quilt for yourself and because you are so talented 30k people decided to follow along. So I’m voting for Pat’s Sunny Days, as Solstice means sun standing and we are all counting down the days between winter and summer solstice for those sunny days to be here.

  6. A species of the honeybee was added to the government endangered species list this week which I hope will help them recover. How wonderful that you are highlighting the honey bee with this block. While I’m sure the block timing is probably coincidental, any awareness regarding the plight of the honey bee is tremendously helpful! Now to get busy and make the block!

  7. What if the two colors were black and white? A good name for the quilt then might be Tuxedo Nines!!! My brightest ideas always come in the morning…have a good day Pat!
