I was playing around with the colors and thought what if I removed the applique, then just did 2 colors in the block.

Then.. what if I alternated that.. and put them side by side… here is what it looks like!

Now it needs a name… because variation of a honey bee is not a good name.. Leave me a comment to name this scrap busting quilt!

  1. Perhaps Wildflower Patch…honeybees love wildflowers.
Love the honey bee patch and plan to make it for my husband who has ventured into beekeeping.

  2. An added unexpected joy about making a scrappy solstice quilt, it is becoming a memory quilt of the quilts I have made. This one reminds me of the new years eve mystery quilt from 2015 which I made and gifted to my beautiful mother-in-law. I have been able to use the nine patch “left overs” in this block.

  3. Name it “Where are the Bee’s?” and put one appliqued bee block on the back. That way, even though the front isn’t bee’s, the name will always remind you of your mother.

  4. Positively negative for the whole quilt.
But I do like Honey comb for the individual block.
so with that I would go with bee hive quilt made of honey comb blocks.

  5. “When Dalmatians wear lipstick” lol Just kidding. Seriously that thought DID pop in my head when I looked at this. How about “Sweet honeycomb”

  6. Thank-you Pat. Your energy is amazing, I think you need plenty of honey to keep your energy levels so high. I like the idea of the block being called ‘Honey Blossom’. A sweet blossom which welcomes the bee with a safe landing platform. Enjoy your day as you buzz around…

  7. Tic Tac Toe. The quilt made me think of this little rhyme – Tic tac toe, here I go, where I land I do not know. I think the poor little bees may have got a bit confused and landed elsewhere!! Poor little honey bees!

  8. Thank you, Pat, for yet another great block(s). Several of the already names would be great. Life without bees?

  9. Hola Pat Sloan. Me recuerda a un tablero de ajedrez. Pero la colcha es preciosa. Muy bonita… y con los colores adecuados quedaría magnífica. Muchas gracias Pat Sloan por la idea. Saludos.

  10. This block really appeals to me, as I could piece a bunch of blocks and have ready some pretty easy applique blocks to take with me to appointments and such. Thanks!

  11. My husband runs a fruit stand and gift shop in our tourist area in New Mexico. He sells local honey and when he saw todays block he suggested I do it in black and yellow. That will be my color choices on this great block. Thank you Pat for inspiring us. p.s. I am new to quilting so this has really been a great learning experience.
