My go to is Aurifil thread; neutrals and light grays . It is lovely thread that doesn’t create noticeable lint that I have to clean up on my sewing machine.
I have my go to neutrals but love matching some fabrics with a thread.

I like having a range of thread colors but do find myself doing more piecing with a light gray thread nowadays.

I keep a big selection of many colors so I have things available when I need it. But for basic piecing, I almost always use neutrals.

I use multiple thread cooors for quilting on my home machine but mostly is a neutral color for piecing my blocks.

I love color! But always have neutrals on hand. I use more neutral than colors but I still love looking at all the colors. Aurifil thread is the best but I can’t always afford it so I wait for the sales. I am also not very lucky at winning things so it would be a real shocker to win. I love learning from you Pat. Love, love,love Auriful thread because my machines love it. The shop I bought my machine from preferred another brand and I had nothing but problems. Even saw knots in it as it came of the spool where 2 ends were joined. Ugh! I really enjoy making my quilts now that I have switched threads. Have a great day!
