I grew up in the Rocky Mountains. Camping was often my family’s weekend activity. At GS we canoed and hiked. Preparation for a week-long hike included squishing a loaf of bread to remove all the air. As a group we had to carry all of our provisions, bedroll, etc. Many happy memories associated with camping.
I remember GS camp and having chocolate chip pancakes for the very first time! After I got home I made sure to impress upon my family how awesome they were and that we NEEDED to make them since it was the GS way! š
I love the patriotic quilt behind you in this video and I would like to know if you have a pattern for this quilt. I also love your camping blocks. As our children were growing up, we took them camping every year.
Growing up, I remember hobo meals, cooked in foil in a campfire or on a Bunsen burner. They never got done but we had a lot of fun making them. As an adult and a counselor, I thought every meal was wonderful (probably because I didn’t have to cook it, but we did have good cooks at camp then). I love camp!
So funny. I just pulled a box out of storage that had some volksmarch medals from 1984 to 1986. Also my 2 children were born at Weisbaden Hospital in the early 90s.
The only food item I remember from camp is the drink we had at each meal called bug juice. I remember a red color but orange or purple sometimes showed up. Iām sure it was a water downed Kool Aid type of drink but even working in the kitchen 1 summer I never saw it being made.
