As I’m writing this giant snowflakes are coming down, it’s so pretty! I dug into my fabric for this quilt to get block 5 sew up.

When to Garden is this week’s theme! It’s about our gardening personality, not timing of plants.
What’s with the 2 small blocks? Let me tell you!
- This is my first week with the smaller size blocks that will be used in my asymmetrical layout.
- I have a BONUS layout to make a 12″ block
- I will be publishing 2 layouts for this sew along. My Primary layout is asymmetrical. The Bonus layout is a very simple setting that uses all 12″ blocks.
For the block this week I have photos with die cutting tips.

** BUY a Gemini Die Cut machine!**

Fabrics I’m Using
- There are still kits if you love the fabric I’m using.
- BUY A KIT

- For the 9-patch block I used some of the small floral pieces left from Block 4 fussy cutting.
- Added in a purple, every garden needs purple! I have purple coneflowers and a purple butterfly bush in mine.
- I folded the purple strip so that I can cut the 5 needed all at one time. This fold makes 6 as it was more effective that way. I’ll save the last one or just put in my 2.5″ scrap system.

- Position the square die on the purple
- And put through the machine for 6 squares at once, LOVE that!

- Another tip for being efficient. I need both squares and triangles for the shoo fly block. Do them together with just one pass through the Gemini machine.
- I did white first, then the purple.

- Make ONE of each for the Asymmetrical layout & sew together

there is no dark blue Jodi. shoo fly is made with the purple floral. depends where you cut the block what part of the floral you get. I’m ONLY using the fabric on the supply list
Thanks Pat. I cant fit my entire block into frame. Hard to place a rectangle inside a square. Lol
The dark blue is not in my fat quarters that I purchased. Is this fabric from your stash.
I’m happy you joined me!
haha… one survivor is great!
join in!
I’ve been in a quilting funk for quite a few months and quit a lot of social media because I just wasn’t getting the mojo, but seeing that this will be asymmetrical, it just might rejuvenate me. I have so many wips to get done that feel like a chore so maybe by starting fresh the mojo will return and I’ll finally finish a beautiful bargello that my friend would love to have. *ahem* and a few others…
I also, am a Spring Gardner, but I’m always trying new plants or something I’m not familiar with and am not always successful with it. I like making mixed pots, that way one survivor is better than none. LOL. My hubby plants nothing but petunias, which I’m not fond of, but they don’t die and makes him think he’s a master Gardner!
Alot of firsts for me first time making a shoo fly block, fun 😀 never made a quilt with different size blocks. Happy l joined in loving the fabric too Thanks Pat for the extra layouts love the runner

Hi Pat am enjoying this Love to garden sew along. Certainly makes me stretch my thinking! Have yet to fathom out how to upload photos. Thanks for your inspiration, encouragement. Vikky
Hi Pat, thank you for the brilliant discount on the Gemini machine…I love the precision and it makes the blocks so easy and quick to sew up! I’m playing catch up only got blocks one and two done but hoping to get caught up over the weekend. Loving this b o w thank you for all the inspiration!
Hi Pat,
I too am confused; I have same question as Jan. Thanks!
Andrea
I am enjoying the challenge of making the blocks “mine”. Started making 6 inch blocks, so had make 3 inch blocks today. Glad to be using up some of my stash in an organized scrappy way.
Hi Pat, I’m a little confused on the instructions. At one point it says to make 13 of the 9 patch and 11 of the Shoofly or do I make two of each for a 12″ block???
Help please.
Dazed and confused,
Jan
Excited to hear about asymmetrical layout. This is something I need to be challenged to do.
Oh, Pat, I was not going to do any BOM-BOW this year so I could do some other personal quilts. Alas, when you said this was going to be an asymmetrical quilt, I caved. Since doing the solstice quilt, I have come to love off-set and mixed-up quilts. Fits right in with my scrappy obsession. Some might say I have a weak constitution, or you might be a bad influence.😉😉
Snow Day…Sew Day❄️
The snow stopped here so Any Day/Sew Day!❤️
Being in a stay of emergency due to snow, means state of sewing, for me…
